In late November, 2022, Cal Painting and Plastering earned the bid to do a complete exterior makeover on a beautiful, sprawling, 6,000-square-foot Mediterranean-style home, nestled in the picturesque Willow Glen neighborhood of San Jose.
Built in 1973, this home still had its original stucco siding with a wavy, plastered textured finish. The existing stucco at this property was in good condition, however, the home-owners wanted to modernize their exterior by adding a new, smooth stucco finish over the existing texture, a process known as “skim-coating”.
For those resurfacing their homes in 2023, smooth is in! To be sure, achieving this modern, smooth finish is not an easy feat but our stucco technicians at Cal Painting and Plastering have a combined 70-years experience and can transform any existing exterior into something to marvel at. Once the smooth coat was applied and went through the proper cure time, our painters came through to add the finishing touches.
For this project, we used a Benjamin Moore elastomeric top-coat to seal and prevent hairline cracks while at the same time, adding an additional water-proofing seal to the exterior. In the end, the warm, Mohair paint color for the body combined with a custom-matched trim color made the final appearance pop.
